As the pandemic drags on, we are all feeling the loss of many of our usual pursuits: family gatherings, concerts, plays, games and travel to name a few. We also need to make sure that our favourite businesses and arts venues are still around when life returns to normal. Here’s an idea: since you can’t go on that cruise, or travel to an exotic location this winter, why not donate some of the money you saved to a local charity?
One suggestion: Walker House, the oldest building in Kincardine, which was saved and repurposed twenty years ago to be our local museum and cultural centre, is currently raising funds for an ambitious maintenance project. This spring and summer will see repair and painting of the wood siding and windows, a project estimated to cost around $150,000.
We have been approved for a Rural Economic Development Grant from the Province of Ontario, of approximately $27,000, but we will need to raise another $125,000 to complete the project.
